Air Freight Brisbane — Urgent Import and Export Air Cargo
Urgent international air freight in and out of Brisbane Airport, with customs clearance and same-day or next-day delivery across South East Queensland.
When the sea freight timeline no longer works
Most air freight is not planned. It is a production line that will stop on Thursday, a launch date that cannot move, a container that rolled at the origin port, or a spare part sitting in a warehouse on the wrong continent. The job is to compress a week of process into a day without losing control of the paperwork.
We arrange air freight through Brisbane Airport on import and export, including origin pickup, airline booking, dangerous goods handling where applicable, customs and biosecurity clearance on arrival, and delivery into Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and regional Queensland.
Express air freight
The fastest available routing, prioritised on the first departing service. Used when the cost of the delay is greater than the cost of the freight.
Standard air freight
Consolidated services on a regular schedule. The usual choice for urgent stock replenishment and high-value or compact goods.
Deferred air freight
Slower air services at a lower rate, sitting between standard air and sea freight when you need days rather than weeks but not hours.

How air freight is priced
Airlines charge on chargeable weight, which is the greater of actual gross weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight for air cargo is generally calculated as length x width x height in centimetres divided by 6000.
| Consignment | Actual weight | Volumetric weight | Chargeable weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dense machined parts, 1 pallet 120 x 100 x 90 cm | 420 kg | 180 kg | 420 kg |
| Light packaged goods, 1 pallet 120 x 100 x 160 cm | 160 kg | 320 kg | 320 kg |
| Cartons of garments, 2.4 m³ total | 190 kg | 400 kg | 400 kg |
This is why reducing packaging height on a light shipment often saves more than negotiating the rate. We look at both before quoting.
Indicative air freight transit times to Brisbane
| Origin | Airport to airport | Realistic door to door |
|---|---|---|
| China (PVG, HKG, CAN) | 3–5 days | 5–8 days |
| Vietnam (SGN, HAN) | 3–6 days | 5–9 days |
| Singapore / Malaysia | 3–6 days | 5–9 days |
| Europe (FRA, AMS, LHR) | 5–8 days | 7–11 days |
| USA West Coast (LAX, SFO) | 4–7 days | 6–10 days |
| USA East Coast (JFK, ORD) | 5–8 days | 7–11 days |
| New Zealand (AKL) | 2–4 days | 3–6 days |
Door-to-door timing is usually decided by the two ends, not the flight. Origin cut-off, security screening, consolidation, and Australian clearance and delivery windows are where the days go. We plan around those rather than quoting a flight time and hoping.
Handled with care
Cargo we regularly move by air
Production-critical spares
Machinery components and tooling where downtime is costing more per day than the entire freight bill.
Samples and pre-production
Prototypes, colour samples and first-article parts that need to be in front of a decision maker this week.
High-value and compact goods
Electronics, instruments and precision components where air freight is a small percentage of product value.
Temperature-sensitive cargo
Pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and perishables requiring controlled handling and short dwell times.
Dangerous goods
Cargo classified under IATA dangerous goods rules, requiring correct classification, packing, marking and declarations.
Sea-air and recovery freight

Air freight Brisbane FAQs
Is air freight worth it for my shipment?
As a rough guide, air freight tends to make commercial sense when the goods are compact and high value, when a stockout would cost more than the freight premium, or when a small part of a larger sea shipment needs to arrive early. We will tell you honestly when sea freight is the better call.
How is chargeable weight calculated?
Take the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight, which is length x width x height in centimetres divided by 6000, and the airline charges on whichever is higher. Light bulky cargo is almost always charged on volume.
Does air freight still need customs clearance?
Yes. Air shipments are subject to the same customs and biosecurity requirements as sea freight, including import declarations, duty and GST. Clearance is usually faster, but it is not skipped.
Can you ship dangerous goods by air?
Many classes can be shipped with correct classification, packaging, labelling and documentation under IATA rules, though some are prohibited or restricted on passenger aircraft. Send us the safety data sheet and we will confirm what is possible.
What is the cut-off for same-day departure?
It varies by airline and by whether the cargo needs screening or has dangerous goods paperwork. Call us early in the day and we will tell you what is genuinely achievable rather than what sounds good.
Can you combine air and sea freight?
Yes. Splitting an order, with the urgent portion by air and the balance by sea, is one of the most cost-effective ways to protect a launch or production date.
